Join us for Adopt A Farm Animal on Tuesday, April 15th from 10:30 t0 11:30 a.m.

Bring your little ones for a special opportunity to "adopt" their very own plush farm animal! There will be adoption certificates, farm tattoos, books, and storytime.

This program is brought to us and hosted by Birth to Five Illinois: Region 3 Bond, Christian, Effingham, Fayette & Montgomery Counties. For more information on their services, please go to www.birthtofiveil.com/region3.

April's Coffee & Crafts will be on Monday, April 7th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. 

Join us as Brenda Rompasky, master quilter and fabric artist, leads the group in the construction of a whimsical potholder to use or decorate your kitchen with! She will also share some of her beautiful quilting to inspire you and encourage you to grow your quilting skills. 

This is a FREE program and supplies are provided thanks to Brenda’s generosity.

Autism Awareness Educational Program will be Saturday, April 5th from 10 to 11 a.m. Stop in and meet members of The Autism Support Connection (TASC) and find out about the group and resources available in and around our community. April is Autism Awareness Month and we are proud to be working with TASC to bring information about the group and resources to the families of Nokomis.

Adopt a Farm Animal at NPL! Canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date!
​Join us on Tuesday, February 11th for a special program hosted by Birth to Five Illinois and their Region 3 Team from 10 to 11 a.m. Children will be able to "adopt" their very own plush farm animal, including getting an adoption certificate, farm tattoos, books, and enjoy a story time!

Join us for The 12 Days of Crafting! From Saturday, Dec. 21st to Monday, Jan. 6th, we will be hosting crafts each day that we are open! We will provide the supplies, the theme of each day, and the instructions. The projects are geared towards 3 year-olds to 5th graders, but everyone is invited to do the crafts! Family Reading Night is Thursday, Nov. 21st this year! Sponsored by the Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian and the Illinois State Library's Illinois Center for the Book, Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event held the third Thursday in November to encourage families to spend quality time reading together. We encourages families to stop by the library between 9 am and 5 pm Monday - Friday and Saturday 9 am to noon to pick out some fun and entertaining books for the whole family to enjoy together at home!

NPL's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program!
We are excited to bring this national program to NPL to help families read 1,000 books to their children before Kindergarten! It may seem like a lot, but if a child is read 3 books a day for a year or 20 books a week, the total is more than 1,000 books read! 
To sign up, stop by the Circulation Desk at NPL and fill in your child's name and the date on a log sheet, then every time you visit us, write down the books that have been read to your child! 
Any books count! It does not matter who reads to the child! Books can be read multiple times! Prizes are earned along the way to the goal!

Goosebumps Raffle 
This month we are selling tickets at a chance to win a scary themed basket that includes pumpkin, ghosts, and skeleton themed items, as well as a new R.L. Stine book. The big item is a signed copy of R.L. Stine's book Snowman!
​Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased at the Library or from any Library Board Trustee. The winner will be drawn on Saturday, October 26th at 11:30 a.m.
UPDATE: Adam Bolte of Springfield was the winner of the Goosebumps basket.

Lapsit at the Library will start back up for the 2024-2025 school year on September 4th and at 10:15 am. We can't wait to see all the returning and new faces! This group is open to the public and meets every Wednesday from 10:15 to 11 am throughout the school year. It is for children 3 years of age and younger and offers a craft, story time, and great opportunities to play and socialize. You do not have to be signed up with Nokomis Hand in Hand nor live within the Nokomis CUSD area to attend!

NHS FFA Petting Zoo at NPL on Friday, July 26th from 10 am to noon! Members of the Nokomis FFA Chapter have graciously agreed to host a petting zoo of some of their animals outside the Library. Stop by and see what they have to offer!

July Summer Reading Program Schedule:
Thursday, July 4th we will be closed in observance of Independence Day.
Tuesday, July 9th is Rainbow Fish Story Time with the Marley Family at 10 am.
Thursday, July 11th is a LIVE ANIMAL Show of Reptiles of Illinois hosted by Macon County Conservation District at 10 am.
Wednesday, July 17th is another LIVE ANIMAL Show brought to us by the Scovill Zoo at 10:30 am.
Thursday, July 18th is Build It Up, an open-play group, from 2 to 3 pm.
Monday, July 22nd is the NHS FFA Petting Zoo from 10 to noon outside.
Thursday, July 25 is Christmas in July from 2 to 3 pm! This has nothing to do with animals, we are just WILD about all things Santa! 😆

We had such a great time with Lapsit this month! Check out these fun crafts the group did! Lapsit is designed for children 3 years and younger and meets most Wednesdays when school is in session. Join us for the next one on January 10th at 10:15 a.m.!

The theme for last week's Library Lapsit was pirate adventure!

Library Lapsit is part of the Nokomis Hand in Hand birth to three program. They meet at the Nokomis Public Library on Wednesdays from 10:15-11 a.m. It is open to any families in the Nokomis School District with children ages birth to three. 

All of the Pre-K classes visited the library yesterday! The morning group listened to the story "If You See a Kitten," and the afternoon groups listened to "Where is the Green Sheep?" After listening to a story, the classes got to explore the library. They all loved getting to play in the treehouse! 

The Summer Reading Program Pizza Party was held on Thursday, August 18th. Pizza, soda, prizes, and games were enjoyed by all!
